A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. Over the next few months, bone grows around the post and holds it in place. Once it is stable, your restorative dentist attaches the crown, bridge, or denture that you actually see and chew with.
That two-part arrangement is why implants behave differently from a bridge or a partial denture. Nothing rests on neighboring teeth, nothing has to come out at night, and the post carries force down into the bone the way a natural root does.

The Dental Implant Process Step by Step
The right option depends on how many teeth are missing and what shape the bone is in, not on a package.
1. Evaluation and Imaging
We review your health history, examine the site, and take imaging to see bone height, bone width, and the position of nerves and sinuses. You leave knowing whether the site is ready, what preparation it needs, and roughly how long the whole thing will take. No referral is required to book this.
2. Planning with Your Dentist
We coordinate with your restorative dentist so the implant is positioned for the crown or bridge they intend to place. Planning the restoration before surgery keeps the final tooth from being a compromise.
3. Preparation, If Needed
Extraction, grafting, or sinus work happens here, either as a separate appointment or combined with placement when anatomy allows.
4. Implant Placement
We place the post under the sedation option you chose. Most patients go home the same day with post-operative instructions and a follow-up already scheduled.
5. Healing and Integration
Bone grows around the implant over the following months. We check the site at follow-up appointments and tell you when it is ready to be restored.
6. Your Final Tooth
Your restorative dentist places the crown, bridge, or denture on the implant. That’s when it starts looking and working like a tooth.
Comfort and Sedation Options
Implant surgery is done under local anesthetic at minimum. Beyond that, the choice is yours and depends on the length of the procedure and how you feel about being awake.
- Nitrous oxide for mild, short procedures.
- Oral sedation, taken before the appointment.
- IV sedation, offered at both offices for implant and grafting surgery.
- General anesthesia for longer or more complex cases, delivered by a dental anesthesiologist.

1) Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most adults missing one or more teeth are. What decides it is the amount and quality of bone at the site, the health of your gums, and your general health. We answer it properly at the evaluation with imaging in front of us, rather than guessing from symptoms.
2) How long does the whole implant process take?
From placement to the final tooth is usually several months, because bone needs time to grow around the implant. If the site needs grafting first, add a healing period for that, which for some grafting techniques runs four to six months.
3) Do I need a bone graft before an implant?
Only if there is not enough bone to hold the implant securely. Imaging tells us that. When grafting is needed, it can often be done at the same time as placement, and sinus floor elevation and ridge expansion can often be done simultaneously.
4) Does dental insurance cover dental implants?
Coverage varies a lot by plan. We are in network with several carriers including Delta Dental, Guardian, Blue Cross of Idaho, Aetna, and Cigna, and our team will review your benefits before treatment. PatientFi and CareCredit financing are available for the balance.
5) Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. Many of our implant patients are referred by their dentist, and we coordinate closely with those offices, but you can request an appointment with us directly.
